HS Code India - What It Is, How to Find It, and Why It Matters
An HS Code (Harmonised System Code) is an 8-digit product classification code used in Indian customs declarations. India calls it the ITC-HS Code. Every product exported or imported must have the correct ITC-HS code on the Shipping Bill or Bill of Entry - an incorrect code causes delays, penalties, and wrong duty calculations.
How the HS Code Structure Works
Example: Cotton T-Shirts
61------ Chapter 61: Knitted/crocheted clothing
6109---- Heading 6109: T-shirts, singlets
610910-- Subheading: Of cotton
61091010 ITC-HS (India): Of cotton, for men/boys
